The story of Wuthering Heights written by Emily Bronte takes place in the
Victorian time period in the Northern Yorkshire moors, in England. The story’s
main settings are two homes on the moors, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross
Grange. All of the characters are related in some way and at one point or
another have done something to hurt someone else. The novel’s point of view is
Nelly’s voice, all through indirect contact. The novel is narrated by Lockwood;
the events had been written down in his diary. Both characters complicate their
narrations through misunderstandings about the story’s key events. Heathcliff
was an orphan who was brought to Wuthering Heights by Mr. Earnshaw and raised
with his two children, Catherine and Hindley. After the death of Mr. Earnshaw,
Hindley begins to treat Heathcliff as his servant. Heathcliff and Catherine
fall deeply in love but her desperate need to fit in society leads her to marry
Edgar Linton, enraging Heathcliff. He decides that he is going to do anything
necessary to get revenge on Catherine and her family because of the humiliation
she caused him. He marries Isabella Linton, Edgar’s sister, but never returns
her feelings of admiration. He used her as a tool in his game of revenge. He
finds fortune and uses his newfound financial power to purchase both
properties, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. Wuthering Heights is a novel about good versus evil, the power of
an unbreakable love, and how society changes a person. The whole story is about
Heathcliff’s seek for revenge on Catherine for marrying another man. He
destroys any relationship necessary in order to do so, as Catherine brings
utter despair to the men who love her. Catherine and Heathcliff’s everlasting
love is tested through her life with Edgar and their children and Heathcliff’s
seek for revenge. She knows she loves him, but her need to be

overpowered her feelings towards Heathcliff. Catherine’s desire for social acceptance
is a common theme, showing how Victorian society was all or nothing. She loved
Heathcliff, but she knew that his social standing would not accept her into
society. She instead settled for Edgar, who would meet her desires. The
