A rose for Emilyand Lamb to The Slaughter are both books about two females getting rejected tothe men they love, and the way they get revenge was by killing them. Emily wasa shy type of person but shecame from a family that are known to be crazy and do crazy things. She fell inlove with Mr. Grierson she met when he was doing construction work next to herhouse. Eventually she married him but not knowing that he is more attracted tomen and for that reason she killed him.
Mary was in a situation where herhusband Patrick did love her but he decided he wanted to leave her for anotherwoman when Mary was pregnant with his baby. This leading up to her killing overthe anger she had towards him. The purpose of this is because both females havehad the feeling of rejection, and revenge. Emily’s husband was attracted toother men which made her feel rejected because she knew she wasn’t going to belove by Mr. Grierson as much since he doesn’t find her attractive. For Mary,her husband Patrick did love but he wanted to leave her for another womanbecause he didn’t love her anymore.
The first thing is howthey got rejected by them. Example “She will persuade him yet,” because Homerhimself had remarked – he liked men, and it was known that he drank with theyounger men in the Elks’ Club – that he was not a marrying man” (IV/I).The evidence explains that Homer prefers to be with younger men then his ownwife which means he rejected her for that. Example “And I know it’s kind of abad time to be telling you, bet there simply wasn’t any other way. Of course,I’ll give you money and see you’re looked after.” (Paragraph 21). This explainsthat even though he’s leaving her he’ll make sure she is taken care of her andthe baby and that he’ll give her money to help. “I want some poison” shesaid.
“Yes, Miss Emily. What kind? For rats and such? I’d recom— “. “I want thebest you have. I don’t care what kind.” The druggist named several. “They’llkill anything up to an elephant. But what you want is—” “Arsenic,” Miss Emilysaid. “Is that a good one?” “Is .
. . arsenic? Yes, ma’am. But what you want—””I want arsenic.” (III/35-41).
The evidence shows that Emily wants to buy poisonbig enough to kill an elephant. This shows she knows about homer and that sheis willing to kill him because of it. “At that point, Mary Maloney simplywalked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lambhigh in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of hishead.” (Paragraph 26).
Thisevidence shows that with all of her anger she just decided to walk behind himand swing the frozen lamb leg on the back of his head, it leading up to him dying. This essay shows and explains how both Emily,and Mary get rejected by their husbands and how they both get the revenge theywanted by killing them. Emily’s husband Homer liked to be with men which madeher feel rejected.
Emily killed Homer with strong rat poisoning to have revengeon him. Mary husband Patrick leaves her for another woman rejecting hercompletely. Mary got her revenge by killing him with a frozen lamb leg overfrustration. “All right” she told herself “I killed him” (Paragraph 29)
