Does light behave as a particle and a wave? Light does behave as both a particle and awave. Many scientist have been trying to figure out this observation for many years and theyfinally figured this behavior out. These behaviors have never been observed at the same time,scientists experimented this individually. According to quantum mechanics when UV hits ametal surface, it causes an emission of electrons, which means when scientists wereexperimenting this project they used electrons to image light. Albert Einstein believed light is aparticle or also known as a photons and the flow of photons is a wave.

Light as a particle and awave is also called a wave-particle duality, scientist called it that because of a fundamental tenetof the theory quantum mechanics. Researchers have discovered a new measurement, apparatus.This measurement can detect both particle and wave-like behavior at the same time, this measurebreaks down to the idea that the same particle can be in two places at once. A research team, ledby Fabrizio Carbone a scientist, set up a experiment, the experiment was with a pulse laser lightand it was fired at a tiny metallic nanowire. The laser adds energy to the charged particlescausing the nanowire to vibrate which created waves that were radiating around the nanowire.Then they shot electrons close to the wire using them to image the standing of light. Thisdemonstrated that when electrons pass close to a standing wave of light, they hit the light’sparticles.

Light does not always behave as a particle and wave at the same time, scientists gotlucky enough of snapping a shot of this behavior. Light behaves mainly like a wave due to “tinypackages” of photons. Depending on the circumstances and effect of observed,light behaves as awave or particle. Because of electromagnetic energy it causes wavelengths through light. It’s notonly light that exhibits properties of particles and waves, it’s everything. Basically light behaveslike a collection of particles, because of the energy of a wave with a given frequency.

Theparticles of the light are caused by the wave, if there is no wave then a particle won’t observe offthe light. Albert Einstein believed that “the cause of light in a particle is caused by a wave. Lightwaves are electromagnetic waves and light particles are photons that Einstein discovered, sowhen light behaves as a particle and a wave it causes the “photoelectric effect”. The”photoelectric effect” is ejection of electrons from a surface. Multiple scientists were trying foryears to figure out this behavior and they finally did with a lucky shot, scientists don’t reallyknow the actual answer but they do believe that light is both a particle and wave.

Some evidencestate that light is a particle and a wave at different times not at the same time. Furthermore,scientists today are still trying to figure this out.Many people ask “how do you know when lightbehaves as a wave?”, you know because it undergoes reflection and diffraction just like a wavewould. Perhaps there is not really a way where you can test both behaviors, scientists just ranmultiple test. Scientists over the years have been experimenting other experiments, to get theexact answer of how light behaves. They would get an answer but it would not be so accurate.This is why they state that “light behaves as a particle and a wave at different times butsometimes at the same time.” There is basically not a correct answer to this scientific behavior.To sum it all up I learned that LIght does behave as a particle and a wave “sometimes” due toquantum mechanics.
