This festival begins on the 4th day of the month of the August and september and according to the hindu calender this months is belongs to the Bhadrapada and the Bhadrapada is the sixth month of the hindu calender. This festival celebrates Lord Ganesha as the God of new beginning and the remover of the any obstacles. The Festival of Ganesh Chaturthi mainly observed in the state of Maharashtra, Goa, Telangana and Gujarat. Apart from this state, Few state are also there, where this festival are celebrated privately and the respective states are Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. This festival of god also celebrated in the Nepal and other countries like United States, Trinidad, Fiji, Mauritius, Indonesia and some part of the Europe. The Ganesh Festival has been publicly celebrated in pune since the era of Shivaji Maharaj around the years of 1630 to 1680 who is the founder of the Maratha Empire.
During the starting period of the Eighteenth Century, this festival lost its popularity and only became a private family celebration in Maharashtra state until it’s renascence by the great indian freedom fighter Shree Lokmanya Tilak. This Festival became a public event later, when Bhausaheb Laxman Javale , installed the first sarvajanik Ganpati Idol in pune,in 1892 and after one year later the social reformer Lokmanya Tilak Praised the celebration of Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav in his newspaper which is named as the Kesari.He chose the lord Vinayaka as the God that can bridged the gap between Brahmins and non brahmins and due to this festival he builds the grassroots unity across them to oppose the british colonial rule and at duration of that time he expand the ganesh chaturthi festival in to a mass community event.
