Most children inherit thesame eye colour or a similar shaped nose from their respective parent, but I’veinherited much more: a passion for learning and unquenchable curiosity whichhas served me well throughout my academic career, influencing my earlyfascination of the workings of life. The human body is anoutstanding machine with a variety of diverse systems producing an organismthat could never be duplicated.
My love of science is just one of my reasonsfor choosing this degree. I appreciate a challenge particularly towards arewarding objective to helping someone achieve their optimum health andalthough this is a tough career it can be immensely gratifying, highlighted bythe many professionals I have spoken to on a personal level. My fondness of thesciences influenced the selection of my Leaving Certificate choices. Thesubjects of biology and chemistry have helped develop both my interest andknowledge surrounding the human body and factors that affect it. Additionally, maths has provided the relevant aid to hone my analytical and problem-solvingskills which in turn helps me to work logically. Thus, good time management,self-motivated study skills and ability to cope with intensity of the complexnature of each topic are essential. I am currently in the processof finalising a placement visit to my local hospital which I have organised forspring. I expect to be able to observe the day-to-day experience of medicalprofessionals and what is entails in ensuring that the hospital and its staffare working together coherently to safeguard the patients.
Personally, I cannotwait for this opportunity as I have confidence that this insight will stretchmy knowledge, provide me with a better understanding of the experience forthose in the medical field and suggest what is required of me in the future. Moreover, I enjoyabsorbing a wide variety of science related journals as I often crave to newways outside an academic zone to learn as I am enthusiastic to develop myscientific knowledge. I find reading the works of experienced professionals andwatching documentaries helps nurture my blossoming fascination with the humananatomy, and the promotion of health. In addition, I have a wide range ofcreative and active hobbies outside of school which help me to keep a healthybalance; I have an undying interest in the arts, and so regularly take the timeto present this creativity on canvas. I also play the bass guitar and though Iam self-taught, I find it enjoyable and eminently productive. At university, I wouldlike to contribute to university life by showcasing my self-motivated,reliable, determined and enthusiastic personality in all that I do; whetherthan it academically or recreationally. I look forward to taking part in the vastopportunities available such as sporting activities.
