I am also sending you a paragraph about Edward VIII.Falklands WarThe Falkland Islands had no indigenous population. The islands remain uninhabited until the French established a colony on East Falkland in 1764. In 1765, Briton John Byron established a colony on Saunders Island and claimed the islands for Britain (unaware that the French are on East Falkland). French handed over their colony to the Spanish in 1767.
Revolutions in America forced both to leave the islands. In 1832, an Argentine military garrison tried to establish Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. Britain expelled them from the islands and regain their power over the islands. The Falklands have been under British control since 1833. establish Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islandstake the Falkland Islands under their control. Argentina regarded the Falklands as part of their territory (Falklands lie 480 km east of its coast) and did not want to accept the situation. In 1982, an Argentine military force occupied the Falkland Islands.
Britain’s counterattack was successful and the combat operations ended with the surrender of Argentine forces on 14 June 1982 and the conflict ended on 20 June. After the failure, the civilian rule was restored to Argentina in 1983. President Galtieri resigned. In Britain, it helped Margaret Thatcher gain public support and win elections in 1983. The war claimed the lives of around 905 (255 British and 650 Argentine).
Edward VIIIIn 1931, Edward met American woman Wallis Simpson and they fell in love. Wallis had divorced her first husband Win Spencer and in that time she was married to Ernest Simpson. Edward and Wallis became lovers. In January 1936 he ascended the throne after his father’s death. He loved Wallis and he wanted to marry her. She got divorced in the meantime. His marriage would not be acceptable to the British public and therefore he abdicated the throne in December 1936. After his abdication, his brother George VI became the King of the United Kingdom.
Edward was then given the title of Duke of Windsor. In 1937, he married Simpson. They lived in Paris until Edward was appointed Governor of the Bahamas, where they moved in. After the war, they returned back to France, where Edward died on May 28, 1972.
