People can learn to appreciate anything, as with any artform, if there is prior knowledge or a yearning to know why it is the way it is.
‘This is why many architecture students appreciate and critic these buildingsas they know it requires a great deal of skill and finesse to their design'(Trufelman, 2015). This can be seen in regards to an art piece, used todescribe the architecture of the building in which it is placed, thus allowingthe visitor to develop their own perception of the piece from their own individualexperiences while being encapsulated by architecture. Art and Architecture have connections within theirdisciplines that can be sometimes seen at the point of merging in the way they extrapolateand interchange their styles and systems (Schulz-Dornburg, 2000). The parallelsdrawn between works by architects and artists are often quite profound and can andto grow within the modern world, as new ways of thinking are constantly beingdeveloped. To gain insight towards the perception of a sensual space, there mustbe an observation between the work of an artist and the work of an architectthat are in some way related to show that there is a degree of correspondence betweenthese two professions that enhance the quality of their individual projects. Bott (1970), discusses the future of the art museum andstates that ‘art must have an extramural presence, so as to disperse the odiumof exclusivity.
Art is part of lie and life is exposed to changes and neworientations, which must be visible and effective everywhere’. Art pieces havea place outside the museum to encourage a wider community through influential observation.However art is often seen as an ‘indulgent obsession’ (Toy, 1997), however Ibelieve that art has the possibility of defining a place not only physicallybut conceptually as an aid to its surrounding environment. The medium of artwithin architecture, allows the restrictions of an architect to be expressed bythe possibilities of having an artistic licence (Toy, 1997). This creates a newlanguage for architecture in both becoming more interested in the reasoning behindan object, its effect on us and also its symbolic representation(Schulz-Dornburg, 2000).
It is important to observe the shared experiences betweenart and architecture and what they have in common by observing the relevantprojects.
