Tesla Research Rough DraftElon Musk, (Owner of Tesla) noticed the world was in need of renewable energy; he founded Tesla in 2003 and has become a leader in renewable energy. Tesla started as a small electric car company, but grew into a multi-billion dollar company. Tesla is no longer just a car company, it makes and distributes loads of other energy components. These components include roof tile solar panels which are cheaper than regular shingles. “Tesla has finished installing the world’s largest lithium ion battery in Australia.” (Pham).
Worlds Biggest BatteryTesla teamed up with a French renewable energy firm and the Australian government to build the battery. Musk promised the battery would be installed within 100 days or Elon would not make them pay for it. Tesla’s battery is charged by a large windmill farm in Southern Australia.
The Australian government requested this battery be built in the Southern part of Australia because they have very frequent power outages due to heat waves causing high demand. “It is slated to be three times more powerful than the nearest competitor.”(Pham). Elon Musk and his crew had the battery installed in record time. “”The project sends the clearest message that South Australia will be a leader in renewable energy with battery storage,” says State Premier Jay Weatherill” (Pham). Tesla is also making advances in the Semi truck industry. Tesla’s Semi TruckTesla has unveiled a new Semi truck which can go 0-60 miles per hour in 5 seconds while on an empty load. These high speed figures more closely identified with luxury sedans, not huge Semi trucks.
With a full load of 80,000 pounds it can still reach this speed in twenty seconds which is faster than any diesel Semi truck. “It can go up to 500 miles with a full load at highway speeds. That’s more than twice the distance of most trucking routes, Musk claimed, allowing a driver to make a round trip before recharging. A 300-mile version will also be available.”(Valdes-Depena). Without using diesel fuel, there are almost as many downsides as there is upsides.
Diesel fuel trucks can travel further than the electric Semis and can be refueled much faster than an electric can recharge. Recharging to 400 miles from empty takes only 30 minutes but that is still longer than filling up a gas tank. Another downside to the Semi trucks electric counterpart would be the Tesla semis are not like any other conventional semi. Since they are completely unique they have to be worked on by all new workers. Creating new jobs is another opportunity Tesla provides. Each of the big trucking companies, including walmart, have bought 5-10 or these Electricity powered beast to test out before full production starts in 2019. Truck company competitors such as Cummins Inc.
released their own version of the electric semi to compete with Tesla. On the same day the Tesla Semi truck was made known, Tesla introduced the new Tesla Roadster. The Tesla RoadsterThe Tesla Roadster is the quickest street legal car in the world.
The speedy car can accelerate to 0-60 miles per hour in 1.9 seconds. The first Tesla Roadster was released in February of 2008, even then Elon had dreams of this being an electric supercar. In late 2017 Elon got his wish when he revealed the new and improved version while driving it around on stage in Hawthorne, California.
“The Roadster will have a range of 620 miles and a top speed of over 250 miles an hour. That would put it, at least, near the 261 mile-an-hour top speed of the $3 million Bugatti Chiron.”(Valdes-Depena). Elon has owned an old Tesla roadster since its release, but since they have come out with a new version he has decided to place his old one inside of his brand new “Falcon Heavy” rocket. He plans to put his old car in a 1 billion year elliptical orbit around Mars.
Elon will say his final goodbyes to his car in late January or early February of 2018. Elon was focused on getting his new Tesla Roadster out to the public for several years but never forgot what Tesla’s purpose is, making the world a safer place.Tesla’s Driving AICONCLUSION
