The life of John Lennon was long but short. John Lennon was a singer and songwriter who had many hit songs in his life. John Winston Ono Lennon was his real name.
John was born on October 9,1940 to the parents of Alfred Lennon and Julia Stanley he died December 8,1980 at the age of 40. Lennon started his first band in the summer of 1957 called the Quarrymen it then evolved into one of the greatest bands called the Beatles in 1960 but it then disbanded in 1970. At the age of 15 John started the skiffle group called the Quarrymen. It was named after the Quarry Bank High School. The group was established in September 1956. Lennon Lennon got married for the first time on August 23,1962 to Cynthia Lillian Powell.
Cynthia had become pregnant so her and John decided to go get married at the Mount Pleasant register office in Liverpool. John and Cynthia were married from 1962 to 1968. They lived at Kenwood in a Surrey town of Weybridge where they raised their son Julian Lennon. John Charles Julian Lennon was born on April 8,1980. But he goes by Julian Lennon. Julian was named after his paternal grandmother, Julia Lennon.
Julian was the inspiration for three of the Beatles’ songs “Lucy in the sky with Diamonds,” “Good Night,” and “Hey Jude.” John had left Cynthia in 1968 for a Japanese avant-garde conceptual artist Yoko Ono. Around his birth the Beatles became very big and they called it the Beatlemania. Cynthia and Lennon were soon divorced on November 8,1968 on the grounds of John’s adultery with Yoko. Cynthia was married a couple of more times after her divorce with John. On April 1,2015 Cynthia died at the age of 75 from her battle with cancer. Yoko and Lennon were married from 1969 to 1980. Soon after the two were married Lennon added “Ono” as one of his middle names.
They had a son named Sean Taro Ono Lennon. Sean was born on October 9, 1975 he is currently 42 years old. After Lennon’s son Sean was born he took some time off from the music business so he could raise his son. But he re-emerged with his wife Yoko in 1980 with a brand new album Double Fantasy.
Lennon’s album “Cold Turkey” was about his experience coming down from heroin. Yoko and John had reportedly become addicted a year before. Lennon and his wife also used acid, they quoted “I think acid was not that bad, but acid is very strong so we don’t use on a daily basis.” John occasionally smoked marijuana, Yoko, said her husband didn’t particularly like marijuana, so he wasn’t a constant user like most people. John along with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr created the commercially successful band the Beatles.
Their genres of music they created were rock, pop and experimental. Lennon’s role in the band was vocals, guitar, keyboards and playing harmonica. Together the band earned the labels of Apple, Capitol, Geffen, Parlophone and Polydor. They are known to be the highest-certified music artist in the U.S. with 178 million album certifications.
Controversial through political and peace activism, Lennon moved from London to Manhattan in 1971. In Manhattan his criticism of the Vietnam War resulted in his departure by the Nixon administration. As a result he adapted his songs around the anthems by the anti-war movement and the larger counterculture. In the United States by 2012 Lennon’s solo album sales exceeded 14 million units. He has 25 number one singles on U.
S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lennon was voted eighth in the BBC pull in 2002 for the 100 greatest Britons along with the Rolling Stone ranking him the fifth greatest singer and songwriter of all time in 2008. John Lennon was twice posthumously inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as a solo artist and as a member of the Beatles.
The legacy of John Lennon started when music historians Schinder and Schwartz wrote the transformation in popular music. They said the Beatles’ influence cannot be overstated. Revolutionizing the sound, style and attitude of popular music.
They opened rock and roll doors to a tidal wave of British rock acts. In the 1960’s the group spent the rest of the time expanding rocks stylistic frontiers. Liam Gallagher’s group Oasis were among many who acknowledged the bands influence identifying Lennon as a hero.
In 1999 Liam Gallagher named his first child Lennon Gallagher in tribute of John Lennon. Lennon was killed 3 weeks after his release date of the album Double Fantasy . On December 8,1980 John was murdered outside of his apartment building in The Dakota, New York City. Lennon was killed by a charter arms undercover .
