For five years Patrick was making money by assuring gullible and inspired people that he was communicating with the souls of their deceased relatives and everything in that spirit. Later he became a consultant in the California Bureau of Investigation (CBD) providing all possible assistance in the detection of crimes. Jane’s success in uncovering a whole series of mysterious crimes earned him the respect of his colleagues.
Like every Sherlock Holmes, Patrick Jane has a sworn enemy. He leaves no hope of finding a mysterious murderer of his own family. Tortured children and wife periodically pop up in the memory of the new-born detective. And it is motivated not only by the desire to punish evil and calling criminals to account. Patrick’s true desire is to find and punish the elusive Red John, guilty of his own tragedy.
Will his abilities help him to achieve the goal if yes, why he is different from others? What makes this show successful because more than 16 million people all over the USA were watching it? I will describe you the main characters and ideas of the show. As you already know, Jane Patrick is the mentalist. A man of genius, he will tell all your secrets, habits, interests, past events about you, in just a few minutes of communicating with you! The ability to notice the details, habits, emotions, facial expressions of a person and instantly build a theory on it, and to hit the target accurately .
.. this all amazes me, surprises and fascinates me! You should see only one episode and you will understand what I’m talking about! Patrick is just a handsome man who knows the approach to any woman, any person and it will not be difficult for him to get around you so that you will not even notice it! Patrick is an independent consultant. He scores with “Red John” because this serial killer once killed his wife and daughter. Despite the hatred that Patrick feels towards the murder, he notices some details which conclude that the murder is arranged so that suspicions fall on “Red John”. Now investigators have to look at other suspects and find the true killer. Teresa Lisbon is a good, responsible person, insanely loves his work, spends 24 hours a day on it, sacrificing everything for her, including his personal life! Do not get tired of marveling at the actions and insolence of Patrick, but despite this, indulges him in violating all the rules of their department and in every way he helps in this! Kimbal Cho the most ambiguous and secretive character. He is always silent, but if he does, it’s only on business.
Trying to stay away from everyone, but the friendly team does not allow him to break away from the team. A very strong and brave man who does not know the word – fear and cowardice. Wayne Rigsby is handsome, strong, strong-willed, and that the sweetest is a kind and sincere man. He is always for justice, he is one of those who thinks 7 times and only then does. After watching the first episode it made clear to me why the show is successful.
In his investigations, the main character mainly relies on logic, observation, and knowledge of various psychological techniques. This makes him look like Sherlock Holmes and many of his imitators. The merits of the show are essentially the same as that of “Castle”: the charismatic screen hero, one big storyline for several seasons, developing in the initial and final series of the season. With each series, interest is warmed up and with interest, you observe how the character interacts with the surrounding reality. If you look at both shows, it quickly becomes clear that both characters are a reflection of the heroes of the classic “Sherlock Holmes”. “The Castle” took over the city’s adventures of detectives, “The Mentalist” – adventures suburban.
Richard Castle is the embodiment of Dr. Watson, with a rapture describing the personality of the brilliant detective (in this case, Beckett). The Mentalist is the new Sherlock Holmes, obsessed with the confrontation with the sophisticated criminal mind of modern times, Red John (for Sherlock it was Professor Moriarty). That’s why such conceptually similar series do not conflict on the air, simply by uniting their audience and supporting its constant interest.
If you prefer a romantic relationship between heroes, Castle will enthrall you. “Mentalist” also captivates the deep personal drama of Patrick Jane, and both series – a great acting team, unlike the visual series and fascinating intricate stories. Try to compare them, and it will be difficult to break away from both. So now we know exactly what makes “The Mentalist” stay on top of charts. But what about his extraordinary abilities to predict, to uncover crimes? Why his companion are not able to do so as quickly as he does? Let’s figure it out. First of all, what does word “mentalist” means? I found three definitions but they are all connected with each other. “A person who believes in or advocates mentalism”. “A person who believes that the mind and its functions are a legitimate area of psychological research”.
” A mind reader, psychic, or fortuneteller”. In fact, there is nothing supernatural in his actions, although at first glance it seems that way. Simply, he developed in himself the possibilities of consciousness, which are given from birth to any person, and uses them. Any good mentalist understands people very accurately and knows how to recognize their psychological characteristics. As tools, he uses the facial expressions of a person, his gestures and any specific features of behavior. The most important skill that he uses is understanding.
The desire to understand someone else is a rare gift, with which you can get answers to almost all questions. But for this it is necessary to be able to overcome yourself and listen to even that which completely contradicts your beliefs. Only in this case there can be an interest in a person and the ability to understand him. As a result: we have a series that is definitely worth watching, an excellent combination of drama, comedy, and thriller, with gentle notes of the action movie, for there are moments where it does not do without shootings. My evaluation of the series is maximum, because it is interesting and reliable at the emotional level, for there is a feeling that it was not wasting time and in the end, it is an excellent entertainment for the evening. This is my subjective opinion. If you decide to watch this series, then I’ll tell you that you were not mistaken about the choice.
