Due to previous attacksfrom terrorists, it has triggered the development of policies from an internationalviewpoint whether it is cooperation, diplomacy, covert actions or physicalsecurity enhancement from the military force. There have been negative views ofhow the US approaches on the issue of international terrorism. Some believe thatthe US foreign policy amounts to International terrorism (Lee, 2015). This isbecause the policies have been accused of negligence of the protest of Anti-warindividuals in the world. The US implemented a foreign policy on economicsanctions on the countries that are believed to support terrorism in any way.US foreign policies neutralize theemergence of the international terrorists.
The impacts of these policieswhether they affect international terrorist is another emerging issue (Pillar,2004). The best possible way in the determination of the impact of the US aboutInternational terrorism is by examining the national security of US. Theimpacts of the policies can be determined through the extermination of theattitudes of the Americans against terrorism by knowing how they perceiveterrorism and their safety 1.1Statement of the ProblemThe research is necessary since ittackles the impacts of the US foreign policies on international terrorism.
America has many international relations which have forced it to come up with transnationalpolicies that are followed for the purpose of international matters. Theresearch is to see the impacts of these policies whether they are protectingthe US citizens from international terrorists.1.2ObjectivesThe study will answer the followingquestions:1. What are the objectives of the foreignpolicies in the US in fighting international terrorism?2. How effective are the policies in reflection to the national security ofthe country?3. How different is America regarding vulnerability to internationalterrorism?4.
Do the US foreign policies give positive results in the prevention ofinternational terrorism?1.3Significanceof the StudyThe study will be significant in theestablishment of the impacts of the US foreign policy on the issue ofinternational terrorism. It will shed light on the positive and negativeresults on the campaign against terrorism in the use of foreign policies CHAPTER2Literaturereview2.
1Objectivesof United States foreign policyThe United States foreign policiesaim at maintaining the national security, ensuring power balance among nationsand encourage peace worldwide and protect the global environment. The foreignpolicies also purpose to maintain the American values and ensure freedom anddemocracy among foreigners (Hook & Spanier, J. (2015). Due to thecontinuous growth of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda, al-Shabaab, Hamas,Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad the world has continued to be a more precariousplace for the existence of people, and this is one among the reasons why theUnited States foreign policy was formulated to ensure the security of thecitizens. Terrorism results to the destruction of property, displacement ofpeople, deaths, etc. It is the responsibility of every government to protectits citizens and ensure maximum security, and this is the reason why suchpolicies as United States foreign policy are developed.
Through the foreignpolicy, the United States defines how the relations and interactions betweenforeigners and its citizens, cooperation’s, organizations, etc.2.2America’ssecurity against terrorismTerrorist groups are investing a lotof money in terrorism, therefore, there is need to invest largely in security. This includes investing in the military training, technologies, intelligence, etc.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with otherorganizations nationally and globally has worked since 9/11 to ensure thatthere are better strategies for dealing with, Mitigation and prevention ofattacks, threats, and disasters of any kind (White, J. R. 2016). There have been efforts to preventmovement of weapons person contrabands illegally on the borders of America toensure security along the borders and make sure whatever is getting into thecountry through the borders is legal. In the transport system security has beenenhancing by ensuring screening and inspection of both travelers and theirgoods. America has also strived to ensure preparedness of citizens in events ofattracts or natural disasters.
It has also created channels of reporting anysuspicious occurrences or people who seem suspicious for investigations andtherefore prevent any attack that would have happened. This ensures citizensare on the lookout. Training on crisis and risk mitigation has been done todifferent partners. FEMA (Federal Emergency management agency) is in theprocess of inventing an alert system known as PLAN (Personal Localized alertingnetwork) this safety alert technology will allow those who have a mobile phoneto receive alerts on possible threats in the area they are in. (White, J. R.
2016). 2.3Positive results achieved Since the establishment of theforeign policy in the United States to fight international terrorism a lot ofprogress has been made.
In 2016 March President Barrack Obama visited Cuba, andthis visit was a sign of the end of the cold war that was there between Americaand Cuba for 55years. There was also another agreement in 2015 between Iran andU.S.
for Iran to pause development of nuclear weapons (Henry H., 2016). Thenumber of attacks happening has also reduced greatly. More private sectors havealso come on board where they work together with the government in detecting, preventing and mitigating risks, crises, and terrorist attacks.
CHAPTER3 MethodologyDescriptive analysis will be donebetween the respondents and the information from the FBI will be done.Interviews will be done to cover the information that that is essential in thestudy on the impacts of the US foreign policies on international terrorism. Atthe end of the collection of data, the information is expected to have theopinions of the public on how effective the policies are against terrorism, thefailures of the policies about previous attacks and the impacts of the policieson international terrorism. 3.1 RESEARCH INSTRUMENTSAll persons who will give consent tobe administered with a pretested questionnaire and the key informants from theFBI will be interviewed.
The questionnaire will cover the part of therespondent’s demographic characteristics and the part which will ask questionsabout U.S. foreign policy on international terrorism.3.2VALIDITYAND RELIABILITYThe validity of the researchinstrument will be achieved by making sure the supervisor checks thequestionnaire and makes necessary corrections. Reliability of the questionnaires will beensured by a pre-test. The questionnaire will be administered to 5 persons.Changes will be made on areas that need correction according to data collected.
3.3DATA ANALYSISWhile analyzing the descriptive datastatistics will be applied. This will involves frequencies and percentages.Findings of this study will be presented using figures and tables. 3.
4ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONAn introductory letter will beobtained from the management of the school. Authority for collecting data willbe sought from the school. All information obtained from this study will beconfidential. CHAPTER4 FINDINGSThe total number of respondents whoparticipated in this research were 100.
There were 60 females and 40 males.Among the respondents only 2% have ever been in a terrorist attack.Fig 4.1DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICSOF RESPONDENTS Gender male Female 40 60 Age 18-35 36-60 56 44 20% of the respondents thought thatterrorism was caused by poverty, 54% thought that it was caused by lack of goodsecurity systems in a country, 21% thought that it was due to people beingmisinformed that terrorist attacks happen (the terrorist think terrorism is agood act and that after their action they are going to be awarded or they willhave done a favor to many other people), another 3% thought that it is becauseof lack of freedom that terrorist attacks happen and the other 2% did not knowwhy they happen.Fig4.
2 CAUSES OF TERRORISM Causes of terrorism Percentage Poverty 20% Poor security system 54% Being misinformed 21% Lack of freedom 3% Don’t know 2% All the respondents agreed thatterrorism has different effects on both individuals and to the nation. Theeffect that were named by the respondents include displacement from people’shomes, deaths, property destruction, health effects, can cause disability, psychological effects such as trauma. 80% of the respondents knew above 3counter terrorism methods, 16% knew either one or two methods or the remaining4% did not know any method.88% of the respondents are aware ofthe United States foreign policy on fighting international terrorism. 90% ofthose 88 respondents thought the policy had been effective for those years ithas been in place. This was because the terrorist attacks had reduced, thereare several agreements between the United States and other nations such asIran, Cuba etc. to ensure peace and harmony and no attacks from this nations.
The other 10% thought it was noteffective since it has not been able to prevent terrorist attacks in othercountries whereas it’s aim is to fight terrorism internationally.Fig.4.3 EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FOREIGN POLICIES Effectiveness of the policy number percentage It was effective 79 90% It was not effective 9 10% CHAPTER 55.1CONCLUSIONIn this study, I looked at theobjectives, the effectiveness, and positive results of the United Sates foreignpolicy to fight international terrorism. These policies came in place after the9/11 attack, and since then they have been improving the security standard andthereby reducing the probability of terrorist attacks. A lot of progress hasbeen made with the aim of enhancing resilience to attacks among Americans. Someof these include improving on security in transport, undertaking training forthe partnerships, increasing capability of the military and many others.
TheUnited States government has increased quality and quantity of the hardware andinfrastructure to deal with international terrorism. It has also madepartnerships with private organizations to better their way of handlinginternational terrorism.Apart from the huge improvements inthe security sector caused by the foreign policies put in place, there werestill some failures. Most of the respondents were aware of the policies, andthey acknowledged the improvements made. It is, however, notable that there isa small percentage that does not know of the U.S. Foreign policy for fightinginternational terrorism. There are diverse reasons why peoplethink terrorism exist.
Some of these reasons are true while there are otherswhich are not true. These reasons include poverty, lack of proper securitysystems in a country, unemployment especially among youths which in turn causesidleness. Being misinformed, lack of freedom, lack of awareness or ignorance ofsafety measures and ways of detecting are reporting suspicious people; somealso argue that lack of women empowerment is also a cause and many others. The U.S. government has made effortsto ensure the safety of its citizens. This, in turn, will enable growthdevelopment of the country and its citizens.
Economic growth with an increasesince there will be a good relationship between America and other nation whichwill encourage trade, therefore, increased imports and exports of goods andservices. 5.2RECOMMENDATIONSTo address terrorism, it isimportant to also address issues such as education to all, address womenempowerment, ensure there are policies that address freedom for all to ensurepeople coexist freely.Citizens should also be trained onthe important things they should know about terrorism. This includes beingtrained on how to detect possible terrorist attacks in their areas, how toreport and remain safe and also what to do in case a terrorist attack happenswhere they are.
There should also be strategies tohelp those involved I terrorist attacks to go back to their normal lives. Thesecan include paying medical bills for them, taking them through a counselingsession, relocation for those who are displaced and giving them financialsupport. REFERENCES.Carlton, D., &Schaerf, C.
